Recent developments in high-resolution and high-contrast imaging has greatly enhanced our capacity for studying the architectures of stellar systems and the circumstellar environment. In this talk, I will present a series of recently finished or ongoing direct imaging efforts to understand and map various combinations of stars and planets, and to utilise their spectral and orbital properties to calibrate evolutionary models, whose uncertainty currently pose a fundamental limit to our degree of understanding of low-mass stars, brown dwarfs, and planets.
