Название доклада: “The Rosetta Comet Rendezvous Mission and Beyond”

Краткое содержание доклада:
ESA’s comet rendezvous mission Rosetta is a further milestone in the space exploration of comets that started with the highly successful flybys of comet Halley. We will review the results so far achieved during the flyby of asteroid 2867 Steins and provide an outlook of what we can expect from the rendezvous with comet 67 P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2013/14. Rosetta will remotely investigate the nucleus and at the same time investigate the coma gas and dust in situ. A highlight is the touch down of a small lander that will analyse the physical and chemical properties of the nucleus material. The obvious next step in the investigation of comets will be a sample return mission. Based on a recent proposal we will discuss how to proceed based on international co-operation to realize a nucleus sample return mission.
